How to Play Online Poker

Poker is a gambling game in which players wager money on the outcome of a hand. The player with the best hand is the winner. There are hundreds of variations of the game. Some games add jokers or wild cards to the deck.

A poker hand is composed of five cards. Two or three of the cards are dealt face up and the other two are hidden. In some variants, the hole card is only shown during a showdown.

The cards are usually green or black and the chips are blue or white. The betting round is played in a clockwise order.

After the cards are distributed, the first bettor bets at least the minimum required by the rule. This is known as a forced bet. If he matches the bet, he raises.

The next bettor can make a call, a raise or a fold. If he doesn’t, he discards his hand and doesn’t compete for the pot.

The dealer, known as a buck, is a white plastic disk or button. He handles the cards and the betting.

A card is dealt to each player, one at a time. Each player receives at least one card face down and the dealer may also deal a pair of cards.

When a player’s hand contains a pair, the highest card wins. Similarly, when nobody has a pair, the high card breaks ties.

After the third round, the cards are revealed. Then, each player makes a bet.
